Elizabeth Haack, Director of Environment
Bruce Rodgers, Senior Consultant and former CEO
What’s the story behind the founding of Ecometrix? Why was it started and what was the driving force behind it?
BRUCE: Ecometrix started in 2004 with 14 professionals who shared a common purpose; to help our clients, solve their greatest challenges, and make a difference in the environmental field. Together, we brought deep technical expertise in a range of disciplines relevant to our client needs. Our greatest strength came through combining this depth of knowledge to achieve the desired outcomes.
Environmental Intelligence is a vital part of how Ecometrix helps its clients solve their environmental challenges. How has this approach impacted the company’s growth?
BRUCE: Environmental Intelligence is our way of describing our purpose. It involves four main components – Thought, Application, Solution, and Communication.
Where most consultants focus on Application and Solution, we realize Thought and Communication are the critical factors required for success. A project’s success depends on how we apply all of those principles, not just one. The perfect “Application” is meaningless if the project was not fully “Thought” through, and most projects get derailed because of poor “Communication” even if they have the perfect “Solution”.
A successful outcome leads to strong client relationships, which leads to new opportunities, which leads to further growth.
Ecometrix has built an impressive team of experts spanning a range of specializations. How would you describe that team?
BRUCE: One of our core principles is to hire the most talented and passionate individuals we can find—and that’s exactly the team we’ve built. They’re highly qualified, deeply experienced professionals who genuinely care about their work.
Even a casual lunchroom conversation is engaging, with topics ranging from emerging technologies and intriguing technical challenges to recent publications or weekend adventures. No matter the subject, the discussions are always insightful and inspiring.
When asked why they continue to work with us, our clients consistently highlight three things: we understand their needs, we listen to their concerns, and we deliver solutions that help them succeed.
What attracts employees to Ecometrix?
BRUCE: People seek opportunities to grow and thrive as professionals in their career. We provide those opportunities. With exceptional clients offering engaging assignments and a team of passionate professionals to collaborate with, we create an environment where growth is inevitable. What more does a passionate professional need?
Why is Egis the right choice as a partner to continue the company’s growth?
BRUCE: Egis is an ambitious company with a strong commitment to growth in Canada and within the environmental sector. Their strategy emphasizes technical expertise and excellence in engineering and science as essential to their growth strategy—values that align perfectly with ours.
Egis also places people first and fosters creativity. On these points, we are equally aligned. We champion professional growth and development, and cultivate a culture rooted in innovation and entrepreneurial thinking.
