EcoMetrix welcomes a new team member Glen Bird, Ph.D.

Dr. Bird is an aquatic biologist with more than 25-years-experience working on various environmental issues, primarily in the nuclear sector. A large component of his work has focused on environmental assessments, either performing the assessments or as an Environmental Protection Specialist at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission reviewing assessments submitted by licensees. Dr. Bird played a lead role in two national environmental assessments for Environment Canada.

Other work while employed with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited includes pre-project environmental studies for new build reactors for Canadian and International markets, the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement for the decommissioning of the Dalhousie University Slowpoke-2 Reactor Facility, and supporting documentation, environmental modelling and research for deep geological disposal of spent fuel.

Dr. Bird has authored a number of scientific papers and is section editor for “Environmental Radioactivity and Ecotoxicology of Radioactive Substances” a section in Encyclopaedia of Sustainable Science and Technology, Springer Science.
